Chapter 41 Summary: PCB Fabrication Process There are five major steps in the fabrication of a PCB, and potential defects are often built into the PCB during these steps. Understanding the limitations of each step in the process is important when designing high-yield PCBs. This chapter gives designers and design engineers insight into problems with etching, laminating and drilling, as well as finish selection. The author explains why test structures should be incorporated into each board instead of relying on test coupons, and why cost and price are not necessarily equivalent.
