Chapter 36 Summary: Power Dissipation Estimate You can’t design a power distribution system without estimating the power consumption of all the loads on the PCB. The IC vendor provides some of this information, but not in the right form. What is required is the load current on each of the power sources into the chip and the frequency at which this load changes. Chapter 36 discusses the methods used for determining changes in load, as well as detailing what is required for a total power supply tolerance of +/- 5%.
